The Bembridge House (1906) is a magnificent and highly ornate example of late Queen Anne Victorian architecture, and both the exterior and interior exemplify the finest accomplishments of turn-of-the-century architectural designers and craftsmen. The Bembridge House is the single most important example of this style of architecture remaining in the Long Beach today, and is considered by many to be the most significant residential historic landmark structure in the City.
Long Beach Heritage purchased the house in August 2000. The Bembridge House has been recognized as a Long Beach Historical Landmark and is in the California Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places. Bembridge House Gardening
Committee is Looking for Volunteers
The Bembridge House Gardening Committee has been working hard on the landscaping of the Homesite. In addition to
the 1943 Victory Garden completed in 2007, this spring the hard working
volunteers began planting flower beds along the periphery of the back
fence. All of the soil, fertilizer, and plants were generously donated
by the Orange County Farm Supply and the Long Beach City College
Horticulture Department.
The Gardening Committee is chaired by Linda Renner and Elisa Trujillo.
Linda was president of the Orange County Rose Society from 1996 to 1998
and has attended numerous Rose Conferences as far away as New Zealand.
Elisa is a longtime resident of Willmore City and has spent the past 19
years designing and landscaping her own property. Both women are serious
gardening enthusiasts! Gardening at the Bembridge House provides
both the novice and experience horticulturist with a wonderful
opportunity to enhance their knowledge about planting and growing
flowers, herbs, and vegetables. It is also a great place to meet
other gardeners with similar interests. At the Bembridge House we know
that a great house with a beautiful garden is a true asset to the
community.
Upcoming plans for the Bembridge Heritage Homesite include designing and
planting both herb and historic rose gardens. The Gardening Committee
also plans to take field trips to other significant gardens in the area,
as well as attracting speakers to focus on related topics of interest.

activities, contact Linda or Elisa at (562) 493-7019.
