Congratulations to Carol Ann Smith for receiving the Preservation Award for Contextual In-Fill at the Long Beach Heritage Annual Benefit. Not only did she create the design and draw the plans for the new ADA approved restroom and storage area, but also for the back porch. She is the secretary of the Bembridge Homesite steering committee and is in charge of the docents for our tours. Magnum Builders also received a similar award for their part in the same project. We are very proud of the results and salute you both.

The Celebration of Roses event was very well received. It was held in the Carriage House and attended by over fifty men and women. The excellent speaker, Jan Brider, is an expert on all aspects of the care of roses as well as being a Master Gardener. We hope she will return and give a talk on another aspect of gardening which would be of interest to us. Due to the discomfort of some guests, new chairs are now on our wish list. Thanks to Elisa Trujillo and Linda Renner of the garden committee for arranging such an interesting program.

The couch and matching chair in the second parlor have been recovered and look wonderful. The fabric and color fit in with the 1930s effect that we wanted. This work gives the room a big lift that was badly needed.

Tours of the Bembridge Heritage Homesite are given every Tuesday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and the fourth Saturday by appointment. Special tours for groups can also be arranged by appointment. We urge you to tell your friends and members of other organizations that you belong to about the opportunity to have a private tour of this beautiful historic house.
