2026 Preservation Awards

A Memorable Night Onboard the Queen Mary!

Wow—what an unforgettable evening! Thank you to everyone who joined us at our sold-out event. Your presence truly meant so much—to celebrate our incredible awardees together and to share in the beauty of one of Long Beach’s most stunning spaces.

We are also deeply grateful to those who helped make the evening possible, especially our major sponsors: the Port of Long Beach, Vice Mayor Roberto Uranga, the Queen Mary, and Visit Long Beach. Your generous support brought this event to life.

To our members—who are at the heart of everything we do—thank you. Whether you attended, sponsored, or supported us in other ways, you are the foundation of Long Beach Heritage.

2026 Awardees

Lifetime Achievement Award: Patty Moore
Patty Moore was an amazing woman! Making an impact on so many people’s lives and on so many local organizations, especially Long Beach Heritage.

She worked hard for Heritage, being on the Board, was President, and also served as Chairperson of the Preservation Awards Committee for 22 years!

In 2000, Patty and her Preservation Awards Committee created the Lifetime Achievement Award category to honor important contributors to Long Beach Heritage. We honor Patty with her own words spoken to the first award recipients: “The commitment and dedication of these individuals…to preserving our unique history is simply extraordinary. Not only do they act as stewards of our heritage, but they also give us hope that the legacies we ourselves create today will, in fact, be treasured tomorrow. They deserve our recognition and gratitude.” Learn more in the video.

Art Conservation/Rehabilitation Award: Queen Mary: Unicorns in Battle Gesso Mural
In the Queen‘s Salon aboard the Queen Mary is a stunning mural! A combined Art Conservation [it’s not called “Preservation” in the art world] and Rehabilitation Award is going to the Queen Mary team for the Unicorns in Battle gesso mural, which was designed in 1936 by Alfred J. Oakley and Gilbert Bayes. The project was painstaking and meticulous for the many people who worked on it, but the result is gorgeous! Learn more in the video.

Restoration Award: Rancho Los Alamitos: Fred H. Bixby Ranch Co. Business Offices
Rancho Los Alamitos is being acknowledged for the restoration of the Fred H. Bixby Ranch Co. Business Office. A years-long project, the Rancho staff created a team to restore the original Ranch office, where the plans for the season were made on the tables, the desks where the bills were paid and where the workers came up to the counter to get their pay. The Bixby Ranch Co. Office is the oldest business office in the state of California. Impressive! Learn more in the video.

Rehabilitation Award: Ashley and Brian Scotto
This home is often called the Atkinson Brick House. Wayne Frederick specifically designed the house on Country Club Drive in 1957 for the owners of the Atkinson Brick Company to showcase the many different brick sizes, shapes, and installation patterns available. The current homeowners, Ashley and Brian Scotto, have worked diligently to restore the interior and return the unique 50s-style ranch home to its contemporary splendor. Learn more in the video.

Rehabilitation Award: Steph Moore and Emily Bone
This Mid-Century Modern gem, is a Del Mar Avenue duplex designed by Clifton Jones, Jr. The current homeowners, Steph Moore and Emily Bone, carefully rehabilitated the duplex on the exterior and restored original bath and kitchen cabinetry. Learn more in the video.

Rehabilitation Award: Matt Leaver and Krysta Lin
This Los Cerritos Neighborhood/Country Club Drive home, also known as the Maurice Frank House. Designed by Edward Killingsworth in 1957 for the Frank family. The Mid-Century Modern-style home has been extensively preserved, exterior and interior, by the current homeowners, Matt Leaver and Krysta Lin. They restored character-defining features, including in-kind replacement of tile in the bathrooms. Learn more in the video.

Rehabilitation Award: For the Child
For the Child, a local nonprofit that “provides a circle of safety and possibility for children,” has restored the façade of its Kenneth Wing-designed Mid-Century building as well as adding a beautiful new addition that remains faithful to the original exterior. Learn more in the video.

Merit Award: Joe Jost’s
Another cultural treasure, Joe Jost’s has been around for over a hundred years and is a Long Beach Legacy Business. Its owners, Ken Buck and now Jon Sweeney, have worked hard to maintain the property and continue the friendly spirit of the corner pub. Many of us have enjoyed a schooner of beer, a Special sandwich or a pickled egg at Joe Jost’s! Learn more in the video.

Merit Award: B & B Antique Hardware

Merit Award: B&B Antique Hardware
With its numerous vintage fixtures, hardware and supplies. B&B Antique Hardware has helped Long Beach residents who live in historic districts or in landmark buildings and, in fact, other homeowners throughout the city, restore and refurbish their properties. The store is wonderland of antique paraphernalia! B&B Antique Hardware is also the source of historic-type plaques and neighborhood signs. Learn more in the video.
