Legacy giving has the power to save Long Beach’s architectural and cultural resources one at a time forever. It is a way to extoll the fact that you care about the past because, as John Steinbeck wrote, “How will we know it’s us without our past?”
Legacy giving will also protect and maintain the historic Bembridge House, Long Beach Heritage’s headquarters located in the Willmore district at 953 Park Circle Drive, in Long Beach. The Bembridge House is a Queen Anne Victorian house, built in 1906, owned and operated by Long Beach Heritage. It is a City of Long Beach landmark and listed on both the California Register of Historical Resources and the National Register of Historic Places. We offer tours of the house as well as educational and community activities.
Legacy gifts take on many forms, depending on the person or family. You can designate a specific amount or a percentage for the gift.

When you leave a planned gift to LBH, you automatically become a member of our Circle. But we will only know if you tell us! Members immediately receive discounts to LBH Events and in time, invitations to Circle Members Only events.
Why Are Legacy Gifts So Important to Long Beach Heritages’ Historic Preservation efforts?
Historic preservation can solidify a community’s past and can help strengthen a community’s future. Historic areas help create vibrant, cultural destinations that draw tourism, art, festivals, and other activities which in turn draw investment, revenue, and economic growth. Also, legacy gifts can sometimes be used to indicate the long-term viability of Long Beach Heritage when applying for grants and awards.
The choice is really that simple. Protect the historically important built environment forever or lose the resource forever to redevelopment.
How to Become Part of the LBH Circle of Preservationists
Many LBH supporters have commented that they have or plan to include Long Beach heritage as part of their will. If you have already done so, please email us at preservation@lbheritage.org. We will follow-up with you. We are establishing our Circle of Preservationists in 2026 and would like to have you included as a charter member. Our first Circle of Preservationists reception in December 2026 where we will celebrate our founding members.
To ensure your wishes are followed, we recommend including our full legal name, address, and EIN number in your documents. Additionally, while state laws vary, it is important that you specify your intentions. You have the option to direct the gift to maintenance of the Bembridge House, support advocacy activities, or leave it open to the organization’s needs at the time of the gift.
