Each year during the month of May, communities across the nation highlight historic places and the positive impact that the revitalization of older buildings provide for our communities. Long Beach Heritage is offering several exciting opportunities to participate in this year’s Preservation Month celebration.

Jane’s Walk
Jane’s Walk is an international celebration of walking and building community to honor the legacy of Jane Jacobs – the writer, urbanist and activist – on her birthday. Walk Long Beach will host this event for the third consecutive year. In celebration of Jane’s Walk and Preservation Month, Long Beach Heritage invites you to join us on Saturday, May 4th for our North Pine Walking Tour or a tour of Craftsman Village Historic District on May 18th.
#ThisPlaceMatters Long Beach Petroleum Club Meetup
This Place Matters is a national campaign that encourages people to celebrate the places that are meaningful to them and to their communities. We want to highlight the Long Beach Petroleum Club for both its Modern architectural style and cultural significance for the community it has served for over sixty years. With a pending sale and uncertain future, we aim to draw attention to the preservation incentives available to rehabilitate the building and the benefits that retaining its character would have for the neighborhood and the Long Beach community.
Share your love for the Long Beach Petroleum Club during our #ThisPlaceMatters meetup on Thursday, May 23rd at 5:30pm. This is a free event and no registration is required. Complimentary parking is available on the street or in the Petroleum Club parking lot. Please note that there will be no interior access to the building. A limited number of This Place Matters banners will be provided or you can print your own.
